Sadako and the Thousand
Paper Cranes (VHS & DVD)
Set
in 1955, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes is the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a young Japanese girl, on the threshold
of adolescence, who developed leukemia from radiation caused by the bombing of Hiroshima. While hospitalized, her closest friend reminded her of the Japanese legend that if
she folded a thousand paper cranes, the gods might grant her wish to be well again.
With hope and determination, Sadako began folding.
How to Fold a Paper Crane
– (VHS & DVD)
This
video is guaranteed to teach you how to fold a paper crane. As for making wishes
come true, that mystery resides in the heart of the folder.
Full Circle
Full
Circle shows people communing with each other or alone. Rituals become gateways that lead to an inner place where twentieth-century notions of domination over
the earth are replaced with a sense of awe. Power politics give way to ideas
that are creation-honouring, woman-honouring and earth-nurturing. VHS
Goddess Remembered
Archaeologists
and anthropologists are beginning to discover evidence of a widespread early civilization based primarily on human cooperation. These goddess-worshipping peoples were egalitarian, living for thousands of years
in almost complete freedom from war or territorial conflict as we know it today. Goddess Remembered reveals these forgotten cultures-taking us to the
paleolithic caves of France, the neolithic subterranean temples of Malta, the mysterious earthworks of ancient Britain,
and the sun-drenched palaces of Delphi and of Crete. This film features discussions with Merlin Stone,
Carol Christ, Luisah Teish, Starhawk, Charlene Spretnak and Jean Bolen, who link the loss of goddess-centered societies with
today's environmental crisis. VHS
Congregation (The) -
(VHS & DVD)
The
Congregation is the compelling story of two ministers - one undergoes a trial by jury, the other a trial by fire - at a church
trying to re-invent itself for the 21st century.
Film Club – (VHS
& DVD)
Would
you dare to go back twenty five years to find your long lost classmates? Filmmaker
Cyrus Sundar Singh did...and offers a unique perspective on the immigrant experience.
"Film Club" takes us back to the '70s and Trudeau's new policy of multiculturalism.
When a Grade 8 teacher, eager to pass along his love of cinema, formed an after-school film club, it attracted a klatch
of immigrant kids eager to embrace their new country. Stimulating and creative,
the club was a complete departure from anything they had known and provided a safe haven from the harsh world around them.

Crapshoot – (VHS
& DVD)
A
hazardous mix of waste is flushed into the sewer every day. The billions of litres
of water - combined with unknown quantities of chemicals, solvents, heavy metals, human waste and food - where does it all
go? And what does it do to us? From ancient times, countries have chosen the sewer to get rid of household
and industrial waste, yet the contaminants we flush resurface in our food chain. Fish
swim through waste water dumped into rivers, while sewage sludge is spread on farmland as fertilizer. Filmed in Italy,
India, Sweden, the United States and Canada,
this bold documentary questions whether the sewer is actually compounding our waste problems.
While scientists warn of links between sewage practices and potential health risks, activists, engineers and concerned
citizens challenge our fundamental attitudes to waste. Does our need to dispose
of waste take precedence over public safety. What are the alternatives?

Place to Pray –3
videos –7 parts (VHS)
Like
Jesus' disciples, many of us long to know how to pray or at least how to pray "better."
Some of us feel our prayers aren't going anywhere and that we never experience the presence of God. But can the too familiar phrases of The Lord's Prayer help? Roberta
Bondi, teacher, writer, and student of the ancient church, thinks so and shares what the beloved phrases mean to her and how
they've changed her life.
View From the Inside: Older
Adults (VHS & DVD)
Does
being "old" mean that a person is lonely, isolated, in frail health and at the end of their lives? Not according to this delightful and heartwarming video. This
study shows a different perspective of what it really means to be "old", challenging viewers to rethink their attitudes and
beliefs about aging.
Through
on-camera interviews with seniors, experience seniors who are living happy, healthy and independent lives, while not ignoring
the realities of aging.
Change of Heart (VHS)
Somewhere
in some church, there is a character like Bob. He likes the status quo, he wants
things to stay just the way they are. He is resistant to change. Yet, he knows that if his church is to survive, then the ways of doing worship and fellowship must change. Somewhere in some church, there is a character just like Lydia. She's young; she lost her way
and is searching wanting acceptance. She didn't feel that she would be accepted
by God or the people in the church. She found a church that really accepted her,
taught her about Jesus and answered to her spiritual needs.
Acolytes, Greeters, Ushers
(VHS)
This
video will provide to new acolytes, greeters and ushers a general knowledge of the responsibilities they'll be performing. It will not inform them about duties or practices that are unique to your congregation. Nor is the video intended to change the practices in your congregation.
Widow’s Mite (The)
(VHS)
"At
the heart of generosity is letting go." The Widow's Mite explores what it means
to give, showing us that generosity has nothing to do with how much we have and everything to do with the willingness of our
hearts.
History of Christianity
– 2 videos – 6 parts (VHS)
This
video provides glimpses of some of the pivotal events in the spread of Christianity and sketches of great Christian figures
who have significantly affected Christianity.
Making Every Moment Count
–(VHS&DVD)
After
multiple, unsuccessful chemotherapies, Mikaela knows that she has a choice: she can let her brain tumor grow "and just go
away, up to heaven," or she can put up with "needles and pokes and all that stuff and make it go away, and even perhaps it
might come back." Sometimes she feels ready to stop her treatments, but then
she thinks about how much her mother will miss her. Thoughtful
and evocative, this new video addresses the complex issues surrounding end-of-life care for children. Psychologist and award-winning filmmaker Leora Kuttner, PhD, profiles five children with life threatening
illness, and the families and health professionals who support them. The
film clearly shows that, despite popular belief, children can talk about end-of-life issues if given proper support, and that
doing so can help both them and their families cope with the realities of their situation. The film focuses on the emotional and psychological
aspects of pediatric palliative care. It features deeply caring physicians, nurses,
therapists and others working with families whose children range from newborns to teenagers.
Their care takes place in the hospital, in hospice programs and at home. Designed
for health and social service professionals and students, this program is also compelling viewing for families and anyone
caring for seriously ill children, as well as for the general public. Dr. Leora Kuttner is also the producer of two groundbreaking films on
pediatric pain management.

government agencies to create services for the community.
Pilgrimage Towards Right
Relationships
Relationships
between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples in Canada
are incredibly complex, little known or understood and often trigger intense emotion.
This is particularly true about the Indian Residential Schools and their legacy. How did this come to be and what can we learn? This is what a small group of volunteers set out
to unravel. Working ecumenically, and with a great deal of assistance from area
churches, the planning team drew their faith and the wisdom contained in 1996 Report to the Royal Commission on Aboriginal
Peoples to organize gatherings called Nurturing Deep United-standing and Hope. These
gatherings were process oriented and designed to facilitate a larger on-going process, The Pilgrimage Towards Right Relationships.
Drawing on the first
four gatherings (starting in 2001), this video outlines their process and spirit. This
taste of our experience is shared to nurture your understanding and hope while proposing an alternative way to educate about
these complex and damaged relationships. We hope you will join us on this sacred
journey. Blessings for pilgrimage towards right relationships.

Keeping the Vision Alive –
Saving Healthcare in Canada
Faith & the Common
Good worked for several years - particularly during 2002 - to create an opportunity for inter-faith dialogue on the state
of the health care system in Canada so that we could mobilize faith communities to participate in the public process created
by the Romanow Commission, raise public awareness of the faith-based values underpinning public policy decisions on the health
care system, and influence the direction of the national health care system. To
this end, we developed an educational video with accompanying workshop guidelines and carried out regional workshops in 15
cities across Canada. We produced an educational video Keeping the Vision Alive along with our workshop
guidelines to hold a discussion and mobilize people on this issue. In
February of 2002, a number of members of F&CG participated in a faith-based consultation on the health care system in
Ottawa, hosted on Parliament Hill by the Canadian Council
of Churches. Speakers included Michael Rachlis and Nuala Kenny. A summary of this day is available on the Canadian Council of Churches Commission on Justice and Peace
web page.
